Common Questions

Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions, and that makes sense. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common things people wonder about before getting started. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, we’re always happy to talk it through.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before you reach out.

  • Only if you choose to tell them.

Therapy is confidential. We cannot confirm or deny that someone is a client, including to a spouse or parent (as long as you are 18 or older, with a few specific legal exceptions that we review in your consent forms and first session).

If you have particular privacy or safety concerns, please reach out. We are always willing to talk through your specific situation.

  • Therapy is a structured, conversation-based process where we slow down and look more closely at what’s happening in your life.

Early sessions focus on understanding your story, what feels heavy, what patterns keep repeating, and what you’d like to feel different. From there, we set goals together and work toward them in a steady, thoughtful way.

Some sessions involve processing current stress or emotions. Others explore relationship dynamics, past experiences, or patterns that no longer serve you. We may also build practical tools for coping, communication, and emotional regulation.

There’s no script and no “right way” to do therapy. You don’t need to prepare anything or show up perfectly. You only need a willingness to be honest and curious.

  • Your first session is primarily about getting oriented, to the space, to the process, and to each other.

We’ll talk about what brought you in, what feels most important right now, and what you’re hoping might shift. We may ask questions about your history, relationships, or past counseling experiences so we can better understand the full picture.

We’ll also review confidentiality and logistics and answer any questions you have. You won’t be expected to share everything at once. We move at a pace that feels manageable.

Most people leave their first session feeling relieved to have started.

  • Christina’s rate is $140 for the first session and $120 for sessions after that.
Sarah and Ashley’s rate is $90 per session.

    Sessions are 50–55 minutes long.

We do not currently offer sliding scale spots. For some clients, bi-weekly sessions may be appropriate and can help make therapy more financially manageable.

We believe in being transparent about fees so there are no surprises. If cost is something you’d like to talk through, we’re always open to that conversation.

  • Christina accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare/Optum, and Aetna.
Sarah accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield and UnitedHealthcare/Optum.
Ashley is currently private pay only.

Because every insurance plan is different, we recommend sending a photo of your insurance card so we can verify your specific benefits before your first session.
